How a coffee maker glitch made my day

Do you ever have one of those days?

If you work for yourself, you know the drill—being a jack of all trades. Two days ago, I found myself in the role of tech support.

I was working on a free guide, “3 Secrets to Making Weight Loss Easier. (That Drug Companies Don’t Tell You)

Besides creating the content, I had to set up a bunch of behind-the-scenes stuff to send it out by email—using Canva for formatting, PDFescape to make the worksheets digitally fillable, MailerLite to set up the email automation, and SquareSpace to host the PDF file.

I hit roadblocks at every step. I watched countless how-to videos on YouTube. I read user guides. I even tried speaking with a human in customer service—enough said, right?

After hours and hours of trying, I finally climbed into bed with all the elements of the guide nearly completed—yet absolutely nothing was actually working on the tech front.

I fell asleep thinking about how I couldn’t do even the simplest of tasks.

I woke up feeling the same.

Here’s where it went from bad to worse.

When I turned on the coffee maker, it wasn’t working. Are you kidding me? I started pushing button after button. Mind you, we’ve had the coffee maker for years now.

Then, I noticed. I’d chosen the strength setting. Selected the stay-warm option. What I hadn’t done was push the power button!

That’s when I burst out laughing and turned the day around.

I’m sharing this story because, in the past, I would’ve spent the rest of the day, and probably the next one too, telling myself how stupid I was. That I couldn’t do anything right.

But this time, it was different. I could see it for what it was—no big deal.  I recognized that the more I told myself I couldn’t do anything right, the more I was telling my brain to prove me right (about not being able to do anything right 😂).

So, the next time you’re having “one of those days,” remember to pause and see the humor in being human with all our imperfections. Because, when we see that’s all it is, that is all it is. No big deal!

Cheers to laughing at ourselves! Because sometimes, all we need is a good laugh to turn things around.
